Who is responsible for this site?

Thermostat Explained (thermostatexplained.com) is run by Sam Calloway. Contact: contact@thermostatexplained.com.

What do we collect?

• Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request data (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) to keep the site running and secure.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It records the pages you view, how you arrived (for example a search engine or a link), your approximate location (country and city, derived from your IP address), and your device, browser and screen size. We have turned off Google signals and all advertising features, so this data is not used to show you ads. Analytics data is kept for no more than 14 months.
• Advertising. The site plans to show display ads. When ads are enabled, an ad partner and its vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your interests. This section will name the partner when ads go live.
• Email. If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply.

We do not sell accounts, run sign-ups or collect payment details.

What cookies are used?

Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which tell visits apart and can last up to two years. No advertising cookies are set today.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics cookies are off: Google Analytics then receives only anonymous, cookieless signals. Everywhere else, the analytics cookies above are used. You can block them in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

When advertising is enabled, this section will list each advertising cookie and its purpose, and you will be able to refuse non-essential cookies where the law requires that choice.

What are your rights in California (CCPA/CPRA)?

If you live in California you can ask to know what personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete or correct it, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. When ads are live, a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link will appear in the footer, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals. We will not discriminate against you for using these rights.

What are your rights in the EU and UK (GDPR)?

The site is written for US readers, but if you visit from the EU or UK you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Our lawful bases are legitimate interests (running and securing the site) and, for non-essential cookies, your consent.

How do I make a request?

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
