Carrier thermostat service reminder
On a Carrier Infinity System Control, a service reminder is a routine maintenance timer you or your dealer switched on, set to repeat every 3 to 18 months. It does not mean a fault was found. Separate pop-up reminders cover the air filter, humidifier, UV lights and ventilator pre-filter, and you reset their counters on the control.
What is the service reminder on a Carrier thermostat?
On Carrier's Infinity System Control, it is a maintenance timer. Carrier's owner's manual for the SYSTXCCITC01-C and SYSTXCCWIC01-C describes a SERVICE menu where you can view your dealer's contact information, set up or change service reminders, and update the control's software. Inside that menu, the Service Reminder Update option sets up routine service reminders. Once the option is turned on, you choose how often it repeats, from 3 to 18 months.
That is the whole mechanism. The reminder runs on the calendar, so it comes back at the interval you picked whether the system has been running perfectly or not. If you or your dealer turned it on at installation, it will keep returning until it is switched off or the interval is changed.
Carrier's manual does not print the exact wording the reminder shows on the screen, so we do not quote it here. If the message on your control mentions service or maintenance and nothing else on the screen looks wrong, this timer is the most likely source.
Which Carrier thermostats have reminders?
Carrier sells several thermostat families, and the documents on carrier.com describe reminders very differently.
| Carrier thermostat | Service reminder | Filter and accessory reminders |
|---|---|---|
| Infinity System Control (SYSTXCCITC01-C, SYSTXCCWIC01-C) | Yes, every 3 to 18 months, set in the SERVICE menu | Pop-up reminders for air filter, humidifier, UV lights and ventilator pre-filter |
| ecobee for Carrier Smart Thermostats (EB-STATE6ICR-01, EB-STATE7ICR-01) | Not stated | Premium model can send reminders when it is time to change the air filter |
| Carrier Smart Thermostat (TSTATCCEWF-01) | Not stated | Not stated |
For the Carrier Smart Thermostat, Carrier's product sheet instead describes an enhanced service feature: if you accept the terms, your dealer can view the thermostat's operating status remotely. That is a dealer feature, not an on-screen reminder.
How do you manage the Infinity service reminder?
All of it happens on the control:
- Touch SERVICE on the menu screen.
- Choose the Service Reminder Update option to turn the routine reminder on or off and to set the interval, from 3 to 18 months.
- Choose SERVICE INFORMATION to see who to call. It shows your dealer's details if they were entered, or the number 1-800-Carrier.
If you registered the system on my.carrier.com, Carrier says you can also receive alerts and reminders by email.
What are the other reminders on an Infinity control?
The REMINDERS icon on the menu screen sets up what Carrier calls accessory messages. You can choose a pop-up reminder for the air filter, the humidifier, the UV lights or the ventilator pre-filter. Touch YES for each one you want, then SAVE.
To restart a count after the accessory has been dealt with, go to OPERATING STATUS and then Accessories Status. That screen shows how much of each accessory has been used, and you reset a counter by touching RESET and then SAVE.
You may also notice "System Check in Progress" on the operating status screen. Carrier says that is the system's normal 1 p.m. filter check, part of a feature called TrueSense that cannot be turned off, and it also runs whenever you switch the mode from Off to Auto, Heat, Cool or Fan Only. The blower running for a minute or two then is expected. If you use the fan without heating or cooling, our page on fan "On" vs "Auto" explains the difference, and circulate mode covers the in-between setting.
What about an ecobee for Carrier thermostat?
Carrier's product sheet says the Premium model's air quality monitor alerts you when air quality is poor and can send reminders when it is time to change the air filter. ecobee's own page places filter reminders under Reminders & Alerts, then Reminder Preferences, then Furnace Filter, on the thermostat or in the app. Neither document describes a service reminder with its own interval. Filter reminders across brands are covered on our filter reminder page.
When is it more than a reminder?
A reminder alone does not change how the system runs. If the heating or cooling also stops working, check the basics first: that the mode is Heat or Cool, that the setpoint is on the right side of the room temperature, and that any compressor protection wait has passed. If those are right and the system still is not working, call a licensed HVAC technician.
Is the heating and cooling still working normally?
- Yes
Is it an Infinity System Control?
- Yes
It is the routine service reminder or an accessory reminder. Book maintenance if it is due, then change the interval under SERVICE or reset the counter under Accessories Status.
- No
Check your model in the table above. Carrier does not document a service reminder for the other families; filter reminders on ecobee for Carrier models live under Reminders & Alerts.
- Yes
- No
Check the mode and setpoint and allow any compressor wait. If the system still does not run, call your dealer or a licensed HVAC technician.

Frequently asked questions
- Does a Carrier service reminder mean something is broken?
- Not by itself. Carrier describes the Infinity service reminder as a routine reminder that repeats at the frequency chosen in setup, from 3 to 18 months. It is a calendar prompt for scheduled maintenance, not a fault report.
- How do I change how often the Infinity service reminder appears?
- Touch the SERVICE icon on the menu screen and open the Service Reminder Update option. Once the reminder is enabled, Carrier says you can pick a frequency between 3 and 18 months.
- What does "System Check in Progress" mean on an Infinity control?
- Carrier says it means the system is running its normal 1 p.m. filter check. It also happens whenever the mode changes from Off to Auto, Heat, Cool or Fan Only, and the blower may run for a minute or two while it does.
- Where do I find my dealer's phone number on the thermostat?
- On the Infinity System Control, touch SERVICE and then SERVICE INFORMATION. It shows the dealer details your dealer entered, or 1-800-Carrier if none were entered. Carrier says this information also appears if your system requires service.
