Thermostat Explained

Carrier thermostats: messages and settings explained

Carrier sells several thermostat lines, and they behave differently. The Infinity System Control has its own menus, including a service reminder and accessory reminders you reset on the control. Carrier also sells ecobee for Carrier models and a Carrier Smart Thermostat. This page explains how to tell them apart and links to a page for each topic.

Which Carrier thermostat do you have?

Carrier's own documents cover three different lines, and the answer to most questions depends on which one is on your wall:

  • Infinity System Control (models such as SYSTXCCITC01-C and SYSTXCCWIC01-C). A touchscreen control with its own menus, built for Carrier Infinity systems.
  • ecobee for Carrier (models EB-STATE6ICR-01 and EB-STATE7ICR-01). Sold by Carrier under the ecobee for Carrier name, with Carrier model numbers.
  • Carrier Smart Thermostat (model TSTATCCEWF-01).

The model number is in the owner's documents and on Carrier's product pages. If you have an ecobee for Carrier, Carrier's product sheet lists its features, and the ecobee hub may also help.

What reminders does an Infinity control show?

Carrier's Infinity owner's manual describes a service reminder that you or your dealer switch on, and that then repeats at a set frequency between 3 and 18 months. It is managed from the SERVICE icon on the menu screen. The same control has separate pop-up reminders for the air filter, the humidifier, UV lights and the ventilator pre-filter, and you reset their counters on the control. The full walkthrough is on Carrier thermostat service reminder.

What do Carrier's general explanations say?

Carrier publishes explanations that apply to many thermostats, not only its own:

Frequently asked questions

Is an ecobee for Carrier thermostat a Carrier or an ecobee?
Carrier sells it under the name ecobee for Carrier, with Carrier model numbers such as EB-STATE6ICR-01 and EB-STATE7ICR-01. Carrier's product sheet for those models is the reference for what it can do.
Does a Carrier service reminder mean something is wrong?
Not by itself. Carrier describes the Infinity service reminder as a routine prompt that repeats at the frequency chosen during setup, from 3 to 18 months. It is a calendar reminder for maintenance, not a fault report.
Why is "Cool On" flashing on my Carrier thermostat?
Carrier explains a flashing "Cool On" as a built-in time delay that protects the compressor, and says it typically lasts 3 to 5 minutes. A power outage or brief surge can start the same delay.
